Food as Inspiration!
Sitting at the laundry mat wondering what I should write about in my Blog today it dawned on me how hungry I was. I started searching through pictures that I have from a great Chef out in California. Chef Christopher George does not only create delish dishes for your taste buds but also the plates are aestically pleasing as well.
Here are a couple pics to get your mouth watering and your design ideas flowing!

Eye catching lime green and zesty orange are toned down with the lighter shades of brown and creamy whites! |
Can you imagine framing these photos and displaying them in your kitchen, or restaurant. The colors a out of this world. I always say that inspiration can come from anywhere including photos of food. Keeping the back ground neutral and adding table linens that draw out the colors that are given to you. The vibrant colors can be matched up with paint chips, the deep redish purple in the meat is nicely complimented by the dark brown on the edges. I would frame these in a black frame with a crisp white wide mat. Adding fabrics into the space using the colors to create a solid scheme. Including the orange tones from the carrot. The other photo, brings in the spunky colors of lime green and orange paired with deep brown and gray in the portobello mushroom.

The contrast that is created with the colors in the food are one of a kind. Using this as a inspiration gives you a no fail color scheme. Think about the last time you made a garden salad for yourself and how pleasing it was to your eye, now take a few of the colors and put them on the walls, fabrics and in your accessories; It is almost like Mother Nature created our food for design inspiration.
Simple things that you can do to change up your space - add a fresh bowl of fruit or veggies on your counter. It is an easy and fairly inexpensive decorating idea, as well as healthy for you. Check out cookbooks that you have around (specially ones you don't use) tear out pictures of food that you like and frame them. The cover of many cookbooks also have great inspirational ideas, display your books instead of hiding them behind a door.
Hope I have inspired you to take a look at food and use it as an inspiration but also as a decorating secret.
Happy Designing!
Thank Yoy Chef George for sharing your photos with me!
